I'm only using a second-gen Celeron (which most people say should not even be used to run Cinnamon), but I do have "hardware acceleration" and "use performance settings" both unchecked in Firefox Settings, and I have all Cinnamon windows effects turned off. I run Firefox with at least a dozen tabs open quite often and can't recall any issues with my system locking.
